The front forks and fender still have rust that I couldn’t get off. I cleaned the wheels and put them on next The picture below is what they looked like before. I was a little skeptical about this stuff, but it ended up working really well. I used metal rescue to clean up some of the rusty hardware. The decal place said they would sell me another one just for that side for half price. I tried fixing it and it only came out worse.
Notice how it doesn’t really sit in the indent. Next, another frustrating process of putting on the decals. Its the kind of thing where you just have to say…. While getting everything ready to buff, the frame fell over and got a big dent in it. This is what made me want to pull my hair out. This is what it looked like after being buffed. It was time to start putting all the parts back together.įirst, I sanded everything down with 1500 grit sandpaper and then applied a rubbing compound. Its going to require investing some $$ on a new crank. This could become a small project to work on during the winter months. Now I need a E50 clutch puller to remove the clutch: Its kind of interesting to see how different the crank looks from everything else inside. I was lucky!!! The transmission showed no signs of water damage and looks beautiful. I was hoping that the water didn’t get into the transmission, so all that would need to be repaired would be the crank. Here is what the engine looked like when I took it off. The engine was completely rusted, and it was very dirty. You can almost see the line where there water must’ve stopped at.
Half of the thing must’ve been sitting under water for a while. The story with this thing is that it was left near the eastern shore during a big storm.
